This is a poster that my grade 2's created during the first lesson in our Magnetism unit.
--> In this lesson, I focused my instruction on asking students questions and having them demonstrate their prior knowledge on magnets. I think this is important because it allows us as teachers to evaluate our students and see where we need to go next. If our students know the basics then as teachers we can choose to move forward and not focus to much on the basics; however, there is also the reverse.

Here is my second lesson in the Magnetism unit that was developed based on student prior knowledge.
--> This lesson demonstrates my ability to take my student's prior knowledge and plan a lesson to meet their needs and abilities. I think this is important in order to keep them engaged in the lesson. This lesson plan includes my reflection following the lesson. I believe that reflecting on prior lesson material is a strategy that is important in order to help better overall teaching skills and increase learning for me as a teacher and for my students.

I have included my Magnetic Attraction Assessment lesson because it demonstrates my ability to integrate a form of assessment that is fun and different for my class. This lesson also shows that I can integrate tasks for my students that don't always require them to use a pencil and a piece of paper.
--> I believe that incorporating task where my students needs to cut and glue is important to their learning because they are not necessarily as focused on what the correct spelling is but what their task is. This type of lesson also helps students who are more visual the chance to be independent.

I have included this lesson because it is one that I am really proud of. During, this lesson my students were able to get a better understanding around the environmental aspect that magnets have on them and the world around them. I believe that learning about the environmental aspects along with the curriculum material is very important because it allows them the opportunity to develop a new view and while encouraging real life aspects and personal life into the classroom. This lesson also shows my ability to use technology within the classroom, and involve my students in the teaching through interactive whiteboard activities. Technology is important to integrate within the classroom where it fits because our students are growing up in a technology driven world and it also provides them with another way to learn.

My Magnet Art lesson was an art lesson that I did and related it back to the grade 2 Magnetism curriculum. This lesson shows my ability to integrate activities that are cross-curricular into my teaching.
--> I believe that providing my students with the opportunity to explore magnets in a different environment and in a particularly different task is very important. I believe that with this opportunity my students where able to develop a stronger understanding around magnets, and were able to see that magnets can attract magnetic materials through other objects for example paper plates.

My performance task for the Magnetism Unit was for my students to create a mode of transportation used in one of Canada's region whether it be from Calgary, the Arctic, the Acadian, or the Prairies. This task also links to what they are learning in their Social Studies Curriculum.
--> This task allow my students to be hands on while being creative designing their mode of transportation.
--> To start this lesson I had my students draw what they thought it would look, where it would be used, and the materials that would be required.
