As a teacher we are required to teach our students what the curriculum wants us to teach them. However, that is not our only job, we are also suppose to engage our students parents in a way that will benefit and enhance our relationship among ourselves, parents, and students. I believe that as a teacher if we are in communication with the parents it makes our jobs a lot easier. If they understand what is going on in their child learning, and ways in which they can help their child at home, it makes a classroom environment run smoother when you have thirty other students in the room who need our help as well. As I have gone through my practicums I have come to realize that it might take a lot of time, but we as teachers should make the time to give our students parents a phone call explaining what we had done in the class that week and how the student was doing. I believe that if this is done our parents understanding increases and everyone is on track their are no surprises when the report card comes home. Even if you can not reach them on the phone, sending an email. I believe that we need to take the time to communicate with the parents. By doing this they will see we care and are wanting their child to excel but the student will also see that you care and what them to do well. If the students feel that you care about their learning and well-being in the classroom they will feel more comfortable around you to talk and ask questions. We need to create relationships that create community with out students in our classroom and school, but we also need to create relationships with parents to strengthen the school community. If we engage parents more in the classroom activities their are a lot less confusions.
