Grade Level: 5
Subject: Mathematics
Brief Description of Activity:
Upon initial instruction students will go onto a website, where they will gain a broader understanding by watching a video and will have to answer questions regarding area and perimeter. The students will complete the activity sheet on the website after they have watched the video. The students will go to this following website http://www.learnalberta.ca/content/me5l/html/math5.html# to find both the video and the activity sheet. If students finish these activities and feel comfortable they can proceed to look at the volume section.
General Leaner Outcome:
Design and construct different rectangles, given either perimeter or area, or both (whole numbers), and make generalizations. [C, CN, PS, R, V]
ICT Outcomes:
C.1.2.1 access and retrieve information from the Internet from a given uniform resource locations (URLs)
C.4.1.1 using a plan in order to complete inquiry
C.6.1.3 using technology to help support/ present conclusions on topics
C.7.1.3 using organized information to draw conclusions
C.7.1.4 basing made predictions from organized information
Computer Integration:
Due to 21st century learning, and the role that technology plays in the classroom today, it is important we incorporate it so students can learn in different ways and develop a greater understanding for technology. Computers have been integrated into this assignment so that the students that are visual learners can achieve success, while also allowing the students the opportunity to work at their own rate. Utilizing technology in this activity provides the students the opportunity to also see another way for learning area and perimeter.
Search Strategies:
The search strategies that I utilized in finding the link for this activity, was using Google as the search engine. I then proceeded to go to setting and changed it to Advanced Search. The key terms that I used during my search were mathematics number system, grade 6, and Alberta. Before searching I changed the usage rights to free to use or share and then browsed through my options.
