Goal #1: By the end of PS 1 I will have integrated technology into the classroom at least twice.
I feel that in todays world incorporating technology in the classroom is important, as students are using it throughout their lives. I can integrate technology into my lessons by incorporating the interactive whiteboard. By using the interactive whiteboard and other technology it forces me to explore its features and use it can have within the classroom. I can also integrate technology by encouraging students to use technology within their learning, whether that be computers, iPads... etc. My first goal for PS1 will be to incorporate technology into my lesson plans in order to encourage the students to also use it, and provide them with another form of learning.
Goal #2: I will work on my wait-time when asking the students questions by the end of PS1.
I believe that it is incredibly important that as teachers we give the students time to think before we pick someone to answer a question. I feel as a "new" teacher this is considerably more challenging than it sounds like. It is however, really important because student process information at different rates and if you pick the first student to raise their hand other students will not get the chance to answer. I can achieve this goal by counting to 7 in my head before picking students to answer. As teachers this is something that I feel we can all work on. By the end of PS1 my first goal, is to improve on my wait-time, and providing all students the chance to answer the questions presented.
Goal #3: I will become more comfortable with the Alberta Program of Studies, for all subjects.
I believe that having a basic understanding of the curriculum for whatever subject is extremely important. Although I have a brief understanding of what each subject looks like, I need to have a stronger understanding before going into my practicum. The curriculum overview lessons that we took part in earlier this semester were helpful in giving an outline around what the certain subjects look like without having to read through the entire program of studies. However, I feel that it is vital to continue developing my understanding . Once I find out what subjects I will be teaching for me practicum, I plan on going through those particular programs of studies in order to prepare myself. I will also definitely consult my teacher associate and university consultant as much as I can, as I know that they will both have lots of knowledge and advice to give me, especially in the areas outside my focus. My third goal I want to have completed by the end of PS1, is to have a more in depth understanding of the programs of studies for all subjects, especially the ones that I will be utilizing within my practicum.
